Lucy Steen van der Schuit

Het Mauritshuis owns several important paintings of Jan Steen a.o.: 'As the Old sing, so Pipe the Young' and 'The life of Man'. Because I started a painting after Jan Steen ('The Drinker') it would have been great to see it in reality but that is impossible. Jan Steen's birth weight ( just like my husband's) was 11 pounds. Looking at Jan's hands on this painting, I think that they are rather small. Our Steen's have big, strong hands and feet.

The last selfportrait of Rembrandt was impressive to see in this magnificent museum. How rich we are in the Netherlands with Rembrandt, Vincent and Jan.

The Girl with a Pearl-painting is at the Rijksmuseum Vermeer-exhibition now and shall return at the first of April.
