  • LE NOUVEAU MUSEE PONT-AVEN

    In Pont-Aven, the village I know very well by now, I first went to the office de Tourisme to say hello. After that, I discovered that the (statue-) head of Paul Gauguin is still missing and that the frame was moved to Place Julia. Then into the new museum which was completely renovated. It has become a very modern, worth visiting museum, although I missed a little the (my?) Breton atmosphere. But when I entered Salle Julia, it felt completely Breton again.

    In the Cathedral of St. Anne d'Auray, before the statue of St. Anne and her young daughter Mary, I sat a long time before the hundreds of candle-lights before I started to draw. The world has changed.

  • LENAÏK ET LA LIBERTÉ

    A painting on the two alluminium doors is being prepared. First: some investigation to do and make a sketch. I went to Lenaïk and asked her to hold a cup in her left hand. It proved that she holds things completely different than I do. Is that important? Yes, for the painting it is.

  • RUïNE VAN BREDERODE

    A very special day in Santpoort: the oldtimershow. The location was amazing: near the Ruïne van Brederode. My husband drove his Renault (1929) and I my DAF 32 (1966). There were so many questions to answer that there was no time to draw anything but the atmosphere was great.

    To-day, Anne and I went to the Barbara-cemetary to draw and paint. Pencil, watercolour and bister was all we needed. 'Washing' a drawing is a difficult but rewarding technique.

  • IS THE PAINTER JAN STEEN FAMILY?

    Yesterday I found an old photograph of our cousin Jan Steen. Comparing it with a picture of the painter Jan Steen: friends really think it 's family!

    My drawings of Thon Fikkerman, which I made after visiting him in Haarlem in 2014, shall be prepared for an exhibition.
