THE BURIAL OF MADIBA

This morning the unforgettable Mr. Mandela was burried in Qunu, his hometown. I made several drawings of the funeral (tv).

Last Tuesday I went to the South-African embassy The Hague, to sign the book of condolence.

NELSON MANDELA

Yesterday, the 5th of December 2013 Madiba Nelson Mandela died. A great loss for the whole world. In 2010 I received a beautiful photograph of him from his assistant Lucia Raadschelders. I used it for my drawing which was exhibited in RC de Ruimte, IJmuiden.

LINO, GAUGUIN & FARM KERZELLEC

To-day I started cutting a lino which shall be printed in different colours. So concentration is needed: printing, cutting and printing etc. again. It has to be finished in time because they also have to be sent to my friends in Russia and that takes some weeks. To-morrow Anne & I (second time) shall visit the exhibition in The Hermitage. I want to examine the painting of Gauguin Nave Nave Moe more closely to see if I can discover something Breton in it. The little painting of the farm (ferme) Kerzellec and the Breton dansers is almost finished. In that farm Meijer de Haan and Gauguin bought eggs for Marie-Henry. In August I made a sketch of the farm when I had my exhibition in the chapel Notre Dame de la Paix which is 5 minutes away from the family-hotel of Marie-Henry (now Maison Musée) where both men stayed.

KING WILLEM-ALEXANDER & QUEEN MÀXIMA AT THIS MOMENT

At this very moment (20.00h) King Willem-Alexander and Queen Màxima are dining at the Kremlin with president Vladimir Putin. The 400 years of friendship between Russia and The Netherlands which started with Tsar Peter The Great shall be officially closed. I made a fictive poem about this event which shall be published in Schrijfsels of December 2013. Being able to speak the russian language (français & other foreign languages) is one of the most positive things in my life.

KUNSTLIJN HAARLEM 2013

We started this 28th Artline yesterday with our traditional dinner at Bruxelles. Mayor Bernt Schneiders openend De Kunstlijn 2013 at De Vishal, Grote Markt Haarlem. He made a tiny drawing in my little brown book. 200 Artists (!) participate this year. The city is one big boiling art-event this weekend. My pictures of the official opening by the mayor will be published at the Vishal Facebook site.  I also visited the Russian Irina Bakkenes. She made a drawing in my book too. She is my Haarlem-representative for the Netherlands-Russia 400 years. Today, at 16.00 the Kunstlijn-opening shall take place at Belcanto, Schalkwijk.

NEDERLAND-RUSLAND 400 jaar

The exhibition Nederland-Rusland 400 years consists of a one-hour-exhibition where I shall be present. The exhibition closes at exactly 1500h !

DIRECTOR HERMITAGE SAINT-PETERSBURG

Two days ago Renate & I met Michail Piotrovski, the director of the Hermitage, Saint-Petersburg, in De Kerkzaal of the Hermitage, Amsterdam. I asked him (in Russian) for his signature on the poster of Maison Musée (Le Pouldu). He looked at the poster and put his signature. So: A Russian signature on a Breton poster in a Dutch museum, isn't that really Holland - Russia - Brittany? It fits well with the exhibition at this moment in The Hermitage: Gauguin, Bonnard, Denis. Especially because my Dutch-Russian-Breton exhibition in August took place at the memorial of Paul Gauguin in the chapel Notre Dame de La Paix. Pour jamais oublier, Serge!

HOLLAND - RUSSIA - BRITTANY

After my unforgettable exhibition on the memorial of Paul Gauguin and other Nabis four weeks ago, Today my daughter and I shall visit (friend no. 83 of more than 5000) the Hermitage  Amsterdam for the opening  of the exhibition about Paul Gauguin, Maurice Denis and Pierre Bonnard. The paintings (collection Morozov) belong to the Hermitage Saint-Petersburg.

EXHIBITION VINCENT VAN GOGH & THE BESLAN CHILD

We started the 12th of August with a good Breton dinner sitting on a large wooden table with very kind inhabitants of Le Pouldu on the terrain of the beautiful chapel 'Notre Dame de La Paix' and the 'Memorial of Paul Gauguin and Friends' . In eight days (x3,5 h) we welcomed about 620 visitors to the exhibition, including Dr. Caroline Boyle-Turner, who founded and directed the Art-academy 'Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art'. It was great to see you again, Caroline.

FERME KERZELLEC: Gauguin en Meijer de Haan

In Maison Musée, Le Pouldu, I ran upstairs to see the room of Marie Henry and Meijer de Haan to see how the room was changed during the renovation. Then I bought a book of Hokusai. I was allowed to use the powderroom there because my exhibition was in the chapel Notre Dame de La Paix (about 200 meters away) and drove on my bike to the farm Kerzellec with my sketchbook and Beslan doll. This farm was painted by Paul Gauguin and Meijer de Haan because Marie Henry bought milk and eggs there. Quick sketches were made and then back to the chapel where so many people had already visited 'Vincent van Gogh and The Beslan Child'. The whole week Hugues (guitar) and Marie (songs) accompanied the paintings and us with their beautiful songs. Marie was born in Auvers-sur-Oise, the village where Vincent and his brother Theo van Gogh are burried.
