• 70x100cm PAPER: BRETONS IN GUÉMENÉ SUR SCORFF

    21 juni 2023

After 15 years: a charcoal drawing (prepared with several acryllic colours) on paper. A lot of water is added to the paint so the drawing looks a little like an aquarel. Subject: resting Bretons (musiciens and dancers of Kerlenn Pondi) in Guémené sur Scorff, La Fête de L'Andouille.

  • DAAN, THE CHANTERHERO (DE CHANTERHELD)

    21 mei 2023

Many years ago, it was a warm sunny day, a little boy played the bagpipes at De Grote Markt in Haarlem. He was standing there all alone on this big square playing his beautiful biniou without any fear.

I added a biniou-player on Bretons au Champ de Tulipes to honour Daan (só many years later) and all bagpipe-players.

  • DEN HAAG MAURITSHUIS: JAN STEEN & REMBRANDT

    23 maart 2023

Het Mauritshuis owns several important paintings of Jan Steen a.o.: 'As the Old sing, so Pipe the Young' and 'The life of Man'. Because I started a painting after Jan Steen ('The Drinker') it would have been great to see it in reality but that is impossible. Jan Steen's birth weight ( just like my husband's) was 11 pounds. Looking at Jan's hands on this painting, I think that they are rather small. Our Steen's have big, strong hands and feet.

  • CHOOSING VINCENT & JAN: JO BONGER

    20 maart 2023

'Choosing Vincent' in the Van Gogh Museum is not only an exhibition about doubt and triumph but also a tribute to Jo Bonger, Vincent's sister-in-law. Because I own several little 60 years old books published by Vincent Willem van Gogh (Vincent's neveu), the family-pictures and diaries were very interesting. And of course the Nabis paintings made in our beloved Bretagne where I had an exhibition in La Chapelle Notre Dame de La Paix au Pouldu. I wish all our Breton friends (Morbihan, Finistère and Côte d'Armor) could see these Breton paintings (peintures de Breizh) in Amsterdam.

  • JAN STEEN IN FRANS HALS MUSEUM HAARLEM

    14 maart 2023

After four hours of painting in the Studio (in the centre of my native city) I visited the Frans Hals Museum , which is just 2 minutes away on my 🚴 , to see and study The Quack of Jan Steen. It is astonishing, how much is happening on Jan's painting (Dutch life) in the 17th century.
