1945-2025: 80 YEARS OF FREEDOM IN VELSEN

Today we drove with our little Daf32 (1966) along with military jeeps & trucks of 'Keep Them Rolling', merci Hans & Wil Ravezwaai) and other civilian, historical cars: 80 years of Freedom in Velsen. We drove the same route as the Canadian Liberators did 80 years ago to the huge Steelfactory (about which I wrote the poem 'Woud van Staal) by ferry. During this day little drawings were made in the Daf for my new 70x100cm drawing 'Velsen 2025'.

MILL 'DE ZANDHAAS' - SKETCHES

After visiting our weekly market I went to Jos, our neighbour. He is the miller of De Zandhaas. Inside this fascinating corn mill, built in 1779, I made some sketches for my new 70x100cm drawing/painting and went home with a large pot of flower honey.

SELFPORTRAIT IN FRANS HALSMUSEUM

My little painting (30×30×3cm): selfportrait with Joli Coeur à la peinture is now (until the 17 of August 2025) exhibited in the Frans Hals Museum, location HAL, Grote Markt 16 Haarlem. The acrylic painting is part of the exhibition Gezichten van Noord-Holland (Faces of Noord-Holland). While visiting the museum, I made a drawing of my husband with his Breizh cap. The drawing is also exhibited.

'LE POULDU' OF MEIJER DE HAAN IN KRÖLLER MÜLLER MUSEUM

This afternoon Ineke, Marja and I were standing before the painting 'Le Pouldu' (Ferme Kerzellec) of Meijer de Haan in the Kröller Müller Museum.

In 2013, when I had my exhibition 'Vincent van Gogh and The Beslan Child' in La Chapelle Notre Dame de La Paix (Le Pouldu) I stepped on my bicycle à midi and rode to Ferme Kerzellec hoping to talk to madame Hélène Fontaine (100 years old). I put my bicycle against the wall of the farm and made a drawing. When I returned home, a little 13x18cm painting of this Breton farm was made.

AIRBORNE MUSEUM OOSTERBEEK

On May 31st of this year we visited The Airborne Museum in Saint Mère Église again (the first time, in 2013, it was still allowed to park our T3 Volkswagen before the museum). There was a statue on the square before the church, not yet unveiled.

Today, after admiring the little oilpaintings of Jan Mankes in Museum Arnhem, we walked to The Airborne Museum of Hartenstein: 'Operation Market Garden'. Especially the courage of Kate ter Horst in WWII, The Angel of Arnhem, made a big impression on us.

FLUOR HAARLEM AFTER 58 YEARS

This afternoon I visited the Fluor Nederland (Fluor Schuytvlot) building to see the Kunstlijn Haarlem 2024. In 1966 (58 years ago) I first crossed the threshold of the then striking building next to the Spaarne canal.

In the basement, where once mister Kroes, the former Dutch Army employee used to run the printroom, there are now studios. Did I smell the ink and hear the huge machines rattle?

VINCENT VAN GOGH'S PETIT NEVEU THEO VAN GOGH 20 YEARS AGO ✝️

Vincent's second cousin Theo van Gogh was painted upside down on the painting 'Nous Ensembles 3' in 2019, together with the memory of Theo, the statue: 'De Schreeuw'.
