At Realisme, the Artfair of Contemporary Art, we (4 painters) admired many new national and international paintings and sculptures. It is always a great pleasure to join a workshop of the Wackers Academy. This time : Irma Braat.

PARIS

The whole day, this Friday the 9th of January 2015, I watched and sketched the very frightening, horrible situation in and near Paris where my friend Sylvie lives. A poem is made and shall be published in Schrijfsels in February.

JAN MAKKES

To-day I visited the exhibition of the deceased Jan Makkes (I met him several times) at the Museumfarm. I stayed there for more than two hours talking to his widow Elly about Jan's drawings, paintings and visits all around the world. Translating the text of Jan's Russian poster (Elly didnot know yet what the text meant) into Dutch was a pleasure.

JOPENKERK

The Jopenkerk in Haarlem is a very inspiringful place to be. I spoke to a special inhabitant: the Poet of Haarlem. He wrote a little poem for me in The Little Brown Book.

HAARLEM IS READY FOR SERIOUS REQUEST

The Grote Markt and Nieuwe Groenmarkt are filled with technicians preparing the great event in Haarlem of Serious Request: Hands off our Girls. Even Loutje Koster is playing an illuminated guitar. Watching all these inspired people, working hard to receive many thousands of people to-morrow and for the coming days is an event in itself.

After that: to the Vishal to see the exhibition of linoprints, surrounded by its creative, joyfull students of the Coornhert Lyceum.

KZOD: DRAWING MODEL

At the attic of De Waag, Haarlem, we made several sketches/drawings of a very professional model. My little painting of the Mayor is still exposed at Stem in De Stad. When I saw it, I decided to leave it there for some more time.     My dry-needle-prints are sent to my friends in Holland and abroad.

KUNSTKRING DE ACHT 75 YEARS

To-day on my colourful e-bike to 'Kunstkring De Acht' (several of my artfriends are member). The society celebrates its 75th anniversary at De Waag , (Haarlem, KZOD) by exhibiting their best drawings. After that: testing my home-cut cane-pens on bisterpaper with japanese ink. One of the pens is chisel shaped so that might create unexpected drawings.

THE REMBRANDT HOUSE MUSEUM

Guiding a friend through the museum was a real privilege. The etchings of Rembrandt and how he made them on copperplate had our special attention. Also the way his Prints were framed by the museum is very interesting to learn. In the Apprentice´s Studio we made our own etching and printed it.

SUMI-E

The first lesson of Sumi-e (Sumi-e captures the essence of nature) was very inspiring. Peace and concentration of mind and hand. At home I took my suzuri (inkstone), red and black ink-sticks and just enjoyed working with it again. Wednesday: to the Chinese bookshop in Amsterdam to buy rice-paper and special brushes.
