THON FIKKERMAN

To-day I visited Thon, a very social person and well known in Haarlem as a tour guide. We talked among other things about Emmaus, where he worked. He also met Abbé Pierre, the founder of Emmaus, several times. I made a quick sketch of Thon, while he was writing in my little Brown Book.

STEM IN DE STAD

The little oilpainting 'Waiting for Máxima' is now at Stem in de Stad, next to the Paterskerk, the church where I was baptised. A better place to exhibit it cannot be found.

This Friday: the traditional dinner with my artist-friends and opening of De Kunstlijn Haarlem 2014 in De Vishal. About 300 (!) artists participate. But first: the opening at KZOD by Joke Breemouer, director of De Kunstlijn. She was my tutor at the Art-acadamy.

THE DEPARTURE (LE DEPART)

The painting is almost finished. It is growing while I am painting: Pont-Aven-women who are leaving the Fête des Fleurs d'Ajonc on the first Sunday of August.

BOIS D'AMOUR

After sketching with charcoal near the tree of Angeline and Jonathan I went to the café d' Ajoncs next to the renovation-site of the new-museum-to-come of Pont-Aven to meet and talk to inhabitants of the village. Then to the Chapel Trémalo to draw. There is never a day without drawing or painting and that is wonderful.

JO KERGUEN

Last week I finished the painting of the friendly old man who walks across La Place Pobéguin every day. When I talked to Mayor Marc and showed him the painting, he said that the painted man is monsieur Kerguen. This week I shall visit him to talk some more about his life, who he really is. It seems he has lived in Paris for some time.

FOYER DES MEUNIèRES / SALLE JULIA

The little painting (started in 2012) of the inner court of Salle Julia is finally finished: on the back I sketched two of the dancers (members of the Pont-Aven dance-circle) and one of the musicians of Ruz Reor. At this place, the new museum (Musée des Beaux Arts) of Pont-Aven shall be opened in 2015.

FIN DE LA FêTE DES FLEURS D'AJONC

Because this 'Fin de La Fête' -painting (Pont-Aven, 100 x 100 cm) was not completely finished in 2009, I changed the colour of the sky. The Café du Centre still needs some attention too. On a 50x50 canvas a sketch was made of the lovely old man who hugs me everytime we meet. I do not know his name (yet).

RENAULT OS2 1929

Thinking of the Haarlem family (I wrote a poem accompanied by a little angel-drawing in the condolance-book at the childrens school 'Babushka', Haarlem) who was killed (Quint, my daughter-in- law was his 'juffie', Pijke, father Antoine, mother Simone and babushka Christiene) in the MH17-crash in Ukrain,

LITTLE OIL-PAINTING

The little oil-painting titled 'Waiting for Máxima' (subtitle: Máxima is coming) is finally finished. I started the painting in 2011 and finished it this month. I had been too busy preparing paintings and drawings for the exhibition au Pouldu etc. In the meantime our princess has become Queen. The original  chain of office of mayor Bernt Schneiders has been stolen and Johan Remkes is now provincial governor to the King, not to Queen (now princess) Beatrix any more. I shall take some of the varnish off with oil of terpentine to make a tiny nose-change.

MH17

Today was an extremely emotional day to all concerned and everybody loving peace and freedom: the passengers who were killed at the plane-crash of Flight MH17 of Malysia Airlines on July 17th, were brought to Holland (home or almost home).

I made many little drawings (accompanied by texts) in my artbook and on A4-sheets with pen, sometimes coloured with acryl paint or colourpencils.
