This afternoon I placed   the paving mosaic FLUOR - tile (surrounded by flower bulbs), with the help of my mosaic friends, on the grass at the Schipholweg where Fluor started its businesses in 1962. Thank you: Atie, Els and Marja!

An inspiring coincidence . . .

This week I read in the Haarlems Dagblad newspaper (of 20 March) that in the Slachthuisbuurt in Haarlem a street will be named after Truus Oversteegen and her sister Freddie. The houses and five new streets (one for Truus & Freddie) along the Schipholweg still have to be built so this street does not exist yet. What an inspiring coincidence that very recently I have had contact with Truus about her watercolour painting 'Leven' (Life) that I bought.

Painting icons

At Anne's I followed a workshop 'Painting Icons' in the traditional way with egg yolk, vinegar and water ( + a bit wodka). A special, peaceful way of painting. Thank you, Anne!

MEIJER DE HAAN AND FLUOR

The portrait of Meijer de Haan (same size, Caroline) on wood is finished. I added the Beslan Doll and myself. L'histoire continue . . .

After visiting the exhibition of Peter The Great at the Hermitage ( 400 years Russia - Netherlands ), I started with the orange-blue mosaic-tile for my former employer Fluor. Was Fluor the first American enterprise in Haarlem? Fluor - Schuytvlot N.V. started its business in 1962 at the Schipholweg after taking over the technical office of Schuytvlot, which was located in De Haarlemmer Hout at De Dreef. The Flowsheetgroup (I was the first girl working in this new group) started in August 1966.The tile shall be placed near Fluor's former office (you can still read the characters F L U O R on the building when you are standing backwards to the Buitenrust bridge). Even now, after 47 years Fluor and I are connected (email). Absolutely wonderful.

Truus Menger - Oversteegen

After sending her a compliment-card about her aquarel 'Leven' (Life), I received a personal message to-day of the resistance woman: Truus Menger - Oversteegen. Truus is a sculptor and painter. She made a sculpture of Hannie Schaft which can be admired in the Kenaupark Haarlem.

Wapen van Bloemendaal, Haarlem

Uunko Wiers has passed away. Uunko was for many years the impressive tenant of the brown cafe Het Wapen van Bloemendaal, Zijlvest Haarlem. He is one of the persons on my large acryl-painting 'Wapen van Bloemendaal in the 80-ies'.

Anton Heyboer

This afternoon, I shall attend a lecture of Lotti (one of Anton Heyboers widows) in the Historisch Museum Haarlem. A number of years ago I sent Petra Heybour  (we mailed then) a number of scanned pictures of the Provinciaal Ziekenhuis where Heybour stayed for some time. The pictures were lent from my poet-friend Nico. They would be used later for a book etc.

Frans Hals Museum : 100 years old

Just admired and made a small sketch of the wonderfully 17th century laid table, (created by Mr. Ruud van der Neut) and the beautiful paintings in the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem. Queen Beatrix will open the exhibition, 'Oog in oog met Rembrandt, Rubens en Titiaan' on the 22nd of March.

CHELYABINSK, a meteor-shockwave hits the city of my russian friends

Yesterday nearly 1200 inhabitants of Chelyabinsk were injured and 3000 buildings were damaged after a shockwave, caused by a 10-tons meteor that entered the earth's atmosphere at 33,000 mph. The meteor ripped across the sky of the Ural Mountains. My friends are ok. Thank you, Vladimir and Sergey!

Stolen paintings from De Kunsthal

The autoportrait of Meijer de Haan and the other stolen paintings are not found yet. They should be in Romania. Hopefully they will all be found very soon so everyone (! ! !) can admire them again.
