SCHIFFMACHER & FRANS BANNINCK COCQ MEDAL

Henk Schiffmacher, the 72-year-old tattoo artist and photographer, has received the Frans Banninck Cocq Medal for his inspiring work from the Major of Amsterdam. Henk made a little drawing Lucy with Diamonds in my Little Brown Book when we met in Teylers Museum, years ago.

Captain Frans Banninck Cocq was painted on Rembrandt's Nachtwacht.

SECOND WORLD WAR COMMEMORATION IN THE PHIL, HAARLEM

After the Commemoration in The Haarlem Phil (Philharmonie) Sophie Poldermans wrote a message in The Little Brown Book. We talked near the statue (Kenaupark) of Truus Menger-Oversteegen: 'Vrouw in Het Verzet' (Woman in The Resistance).

A PHOTO AND A PAINTING

To-day I saw a lovely, colourful painting in Het Heiligpand made by Ine van Ameijde. She used a black and white photo of my (deceased) mother Catharina Zomer and my sister. The photo was taken in 1951.

LOUIS KERSCHKAMPS PHOTO LEGACY

Thousands and thousands of photos made by the deceased Louis Kerschkamp of Haarlem, our Académie des Arts (KAH), De Ark, Kunstlijn etc., were put on the tables in Het Zaeltje. I hoped to find the photos that were made by Louis in the Orangerie (Elswout) in 2007 of Kees Verkade and me. Hours and hours of searching, surrounded by very friendly people was a real pleasure but unfortunately the photos were not found. I did find some of my sister and me at the Art-Academy 2003, sketching Louis who was one of the most portrayed people in Haarlem.

JOKE BREEMOUER LEAVES KUNSTLIJN HAARLEM AFTER 30 YEARS

Tonight Joke Breemouer (fellow villager Santpoort) says goodbye as director of Kunstlijn Haarlem after 30 years. We artists, shall be present in De Gravenzaal (La Salle des Comtes) in The City Hall of Haarlem. Joke and I, we have a special relationship because of our sons: swimmates since 1972: Stoop's Bad. She was also my teacher at the Art-Academy and jury member at my final exams. Thank you, Joke!

FRANS HALS MUSEUM AND NOORD-HOLLANDS ARCHIEF

Not only City- and Landscapes of Haarlem from the 17th century in The Frans Hals Museum by Jacob van Ruisdael, Jan van Goyen and others but also Haarlem-drawings (a.o. Rembrandt) from Noord-hollands Archief (NHA) are part of the present exhibition. 

A pleasant surprise in this museum: Vincent's sunflowers were painted by Isaac Israëls on his painting Rosalie.

To print the lino-cut I asked my brother Johan, the skilled bookbinder in Lijnden, for good quality paper in different colours.

FLUOR AFTER 46 YEARS

To-day I met a former Fluor-collegue (mechanical engineer) after 46 years. It was a real pleasure to present him the Fluor-50-years-book.

The closure of the NAM-Gaz-production in Groningen is also a part of the new sketch/painting '2023'.
