'PORTRAIT AFTER REMBRANDT' : WORKSHOP
21 oktober 2017Yes, we did it: sketching before one of Rembrandts paintings (sailor?) from the Hermitage St. Petersburg being observed by many visitors in the Hermitage Amsterdam. I had never seen this real painting before. After that we went into this huge museum to paint. Of course we didnot have time enough but it was really worthwhile, Ingrid!

JUNO BEACH, NORMANDY & ZANDVOORT
18 oktober 2017Two days ago, on the 16th of October (the warmest 16th Oct. éver in Holland) I made little drawings of the Noordzee and the happy, free people walking on the beach. Such a difference with Juno beach, Corseulles, where I was drawing a few weeks ago. Só many people gave their lives for our freedom on these beaches of Normandy in 1944.

IJMUIDEN: THE BIGGEST LOCK IN THE WORLD
13 oktober 2017To-day I visited SHIP IJmuiden, the temporary information-center that shall exist as long as it takes to build the biggest lock in the world in our community Velsen. Unfortunately the wind was too strong to make drawings while I was standing on the roof of SHIP. But, my goodness, what a view!! My poem Woud van Staal shall be exhibited on one of the SHIP-windows.

DUTCH MASTERS FROM THE HERMITAGE
8 oktober 2017Renate & I visited the exhibition of great paintings (Golden Age) from St Petersburg by Dutch masters : Rembrandt, Jan Steen and (that is very special) of several masters from Haarlem (Frans Hals, Wouwerman, Van Ostade etc.). The text: 'The rich city of Haarlem was the cradle of Dutch Art of Painting at the end of the 16th century', was a very pleasant surprise to read about our native soil.

MIROW
9 september 2017Johan van Beem, the resistance-man who lived in our house, has now, after 72 years, his own gravestone (made of a tile which was lying in our garden) on the cemetary of Mirow, Germany. Thanks to his grandson Hans van Beem. The ceremony was attended by many people and filmed by the German broadcasting station.

9 september 2017Some details (more than 30 cows suddenly approached me while I was painting!) are added, la campagne and the cap of Léna are changed ... V.'s pipe has to be part of this 'Peinture de La Liberté' as well. The story of V. and The Child may even become a never-ending story that could be continued/painted as long as there are human beings

LES HIRONDELLES
2 september 2017The tiffany-windows I made 24 years ago above the frontdoor represent hirondelles and La Campagne. The sun makes these windows, which reflect their colours on the white wall fairy-like. The Hirondelles left now but not in my drawings ...
